ok, i was looking in the D:iTunes folder (the actual library), and the C:program filesiTunes folder for hte library files. i did not realize i needed to look in the usersrobertmusicitunes folder for the library file. i renamed the itunes library.itl file, and found a iT 8.tmp file with yesterday's date in it. I renamed it to iTunes Library.itl and now it appears the library is back.
I also just added the musiciTunes folder to the exlcuded list.

But i was able to sync without erasing the iPad. Those instructions worked, once irealized hte correct folder to look in. That was a big help, i was seriously freaking out for a bit.
