FINAL EDIT - If you're here for answers, while nothing here worked for me, that doesn't mean it won't work for you, so I suggest you try everything here if you can. What I ended up doing is giving up on windows 7 and instead installed windows 10.

Firstly, I've done a lot of googling and searching reddit, and no one seems to have the exact same problem as me when getting this error.

I recently built a new computer for my brother, and when trying to install win7 from a bootable usb drive, I get the error 'No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK' and then what follows is the error 'A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.'

Windows Installation No Drivers Found

Specifically, I boot up the computer from the USB, it gets to the 'Install Now' screen, and when I press that it goes to a 'Setup is starting' loading screen, and finally the error pops up. Here's a video someone made showing exactly what happens: https://youtu.be/m9oMz5rMkD8?t=24s

I've seen people say that the ISO could be corrupted, but I know that isn't the case because when I boot the same USB on my computer, I don't get the error, everything goes smoothly. I've also seen people say that it was because they had the USB in a 3.0 port, but I assure you I have it in a 2.0 port. I've even tried multiple 2.0 ports and a 3.0 port just in case. As far as the actual flash drive goes, I've checked and it is definitely a 2.0 flash drive.

My brother's motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 and my motherboard that the ISO did work on is an Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+.

EDIT - I've taken a look at the available drivers for my brother's motherboard and this particular one jumps out at me:

'Intel SATA Preinstall driver (For AHCI / RAID Mode) Note: Windows setup to read from USB thumb drive.'

Does anyone know if this is relevant to my situation? If yes, how do I provide this driver for the installation? Do I have to put it on a second flash drive and access that within the install? Or do I edit the bootable USB and inject the driver in there?

No Device Drivers Were Found Windows 7 Installation Boot Camp 2017

  • Windows 7 Install: No drives were found 6 answers

I have XPS-15 L502 with 1TB HD

I have ONLY ubuntu 12.04 installed. It runs just fine. No other OS is installed.

While trying to re-install Windows 7 using the Recovery Disk Dell provides, it asks me 'Where do you want to install Windows'.

But no drives are visible. It says 'No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation'.

I want to COMPLETELY erase EVERYTHING on my HD and install windows 7 or 8. (I have both Installation disks). Here's the screenshot of the error.

After you get past the language selection, select Repair, open Command Prompt and type the following commands (pressing Enter after each one):

Restart the system, and now you should be able to complete the installation.

Explanation about the commands

list disk: Displays a list of disks and information about them, such as their size, amount of available free space, whether the disk is a basic or dynamic disk, and whether the disk uses the master boot record (MBR) or GUID partition table (GPT) partition style. The disk marked with an asterisk (*) has focus.

select disk [n]: Selects the specified disk and shifts the focus to it.nSpecifies the disk number of the disk to receive focus. If you do not specify a disk number, the select command lists the disk that currently has the focus. You can view the numbers for all disks on the computer by using the list disk command.

clean: Removes any and all partition or volume formatting from the disk with focus. On master boot record (MBR) disks, only the MBR partitioning information and hidden sector information are overwritten. On GUID partition table (GPT) disks, the GPT partitioning information, including the Protective MBR, is overwritten; there is no hidden sector information.
